Catsy / Koan from Sailor Moon
Completed: 100%
Cost: $222
Hours to Make: 30
First worn at: Dragon Con 2015
Inspiration: Obviously I'm a big Sailor Moon fan, Catsy was always one of my favorite villains from the show and when a friend decided to put together a villains cosplay group she was my first pick! I got some inspiration from the original design by Thierry Mugler, so my version of her has a slightly more high fashion look to it, rather than straight from the anime. I used a sheer pink nylon instead of something opaque looking like in the anime, and I gave the back of the tutu a longer train. All of my pin stripes on the body suit are hand painted, it took me over 7 hours to do them. This was also my first time trying my hand at covering carved foam with loose wig hair. In order to get the colors to match and to add some volume to the wig I use two of the same wigs for this. So needless to say, a lot of time and love went into making this cosplay. I'm so happy with how it turned out too! My friend Pork Buns Makes Stuff made my forehead gem for me because I was running out of time to make it while finishing everything else before the convention, but I'm so happy with how that turned out too, that I don't think I want to do a resin version. But who knows, maybe I will make one for a shoot at least. As the one she made me is SUPER light weight so it makes it so easy to attach to the wig to wear at conventions.
Easiest Task: The body suit. It was time consuming to hand paint the pin stripes, and also delicate work to sew such a fine material together, but body suites are easy for me at this point. I put them out in my sleep lol!
Hardest Task: The wig. Again, this was my first time figuring out how to hand carve, cover and attach wig additions. I made some mistakes, but now I know what to do for next time.
